Care and Maintenance of Your Exotic Lingerie

Your exotic lingerie is an investment that if properly cared for, can be enjoyed for many years. Most lingerie requires hand washing in cold water using a mild detergent and then carefully drying by laying it flat on an absorbent towel. You should never, repeat, never, put your exotic lingerie in the dryer, but you can use gentle steaming to remove wrinkles. Some companies will recommend that you wash it in a lingerie wash bag, which protects it from getting snagged or torn in the washer, and eliminates the hand washing step. Just be sure to use a cold water wash setting.

If you have silk exotic lingerie, extra care must be taken. Use only a mild soap or a specially designed silk wash, and never use detergent directly on the silk. Soak it in warm water for five minutes, then agitate (rotate) it gently, not twisting, to rinse, using cold water and a teaspoon of vinegar. Roll your exotic lingerie in a towel and lay it flat to dry. Silk can be ironed while slightly damp or alternatively, you can hang it in a steamy bathroom to remove any wrinkles. Make sure to never expose silk to direct sunlight or to spray perfume or any other scented product on it, as this can be very difficult to remove.

If you have leather exotic lingerie, keep in mind that it is important to store and handle it properly. Avoid extreme heat or cold, and never store it in high humidity or plastic bags. Your leather garments can be cleaned with the same leather cleaner that is used to clean other leather goods, employing an amount of product and a soft sponge. Be sure not to get the leather too wet, since leather sometimes shrinks when it dries. Leather should be allowed to dry away from heat or sunlight for approximately 24 hours. After this time, the leather will be stiff, and should be coated with a light coating of leather conditioner. Suede is also handled in the same way, but should be cleaned according to specific manufacturer instructions. As with other types of exotic lingerie, never place your leather garments directly in the dryer, as this will lead to shrinkage, fading, and warping of the material, and my also lead to a dryer fire if the garment becomes caught in the lint trap.
